Winward/HTP Motorsport today announced that the #57 Sonic tools entry of team owner, Bryce Ward and Dutchman, Indy Dontje, will expand to a full season effort in the GS Class of the 2018 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.

The Houston based team had originally intended to run it’s third AMG GT4 at four events this season but after encouraging results at Daytona and Sebring and with the pair lying fifth in points, it has been decided to compete in all ten rounds and make run at the GS Championship in the Sonic tools backed Mercedes.

“Initially I wanted to have the experience of driving the four classic tracks of Daytona, Sebring, Watkins and Road Atlanta,” explained Team Owner, Bryce Ward. “I was concerned that I would be stretching the team too thin running the full season but the team has been absolutely amazing and have given Indy and myself a very competitive car,” he continued. Ward also explained how support from his family-run team made the decision to keep racing a simple one. “The Mercedes is a fantastic car to drive and I have really enjoyed it. Thanks to Russell and the team’s encouragement it was a very easy decision to commit to the full season.”

For Dutchman, Dontje, the extension of his Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge campaign is an opportunity to compete for a championship and an emphatic vote of confidence for his performances in the first two races of the season. “I’m really happy to extend my race program with Bryce here in the USA. I think we’re doing a great job in what is an incredibly strong field and we really have a chance to fight for the Championship. It’s also great to see that Bryce believes in our partnership and that he wants to continue with me for the rest of the season.” The expanded race program means that the youngster from Alkmaar has a lot more preparation ahead of him. “From now on I will be spending more time in the simulator to learn all the tracks and ensure I’m fully prepared for the next race at Mid Ohio.”
